Summer's End in Produce

Summer is winding to a close. It seems to have gone by surprisingly fast! The last harvests of tomatoes are upon us and corn is finishing up as well. We have beautiful peaches from Darmouth MA right now - perfectly tree ripened. We're also getting our first apple harvests with beautifully sweet varieties like honey crisp.

Every now and then we bring in an item of produce that is bit off the beaten path such as our beautiful dragon fruit, fresh green almonds or fresh dates. Right now we have our fresh dates in. These whole dates are still on the vine and ripen bit by bit each day. Some folks love them unripe when they have a crisp texture and a mildly sweet yet tannic flavor. Others love the honeyed sweetness and soft texture that develops when the dates are brown, wrinkly and fully ripe. Stop by and ask Julio or David to give you a taste!
