The prized San Marzano tomato is a variety of plum tomato that originated in the Campania region of Italy. Their flavor is stronger, sweeter, and less acidic when compared to the Roma tomato. San Marzano production is protected by a European protected designation of origin (PDO) certification.
These canned San Marzano tomatoes from our friends at Carmela are grown organically, then peeled and preserved whole in their juice. They make a great base for a simple tomato sauce, tomato soup, or any other tomato-based dish.
